Roberto Montenegro: Muralism Outside the Norm
Tuesday to Sunday
Through Sunday, September 27, 2026
10:00 AM
This major retrospective brings together more than 90 works by Roberto Montenegro, one of Mexican muralism's pioneers whose art opened routes to modernity through symbolism, art deco, popular art, and the male body. Organized across nine thematic sections, the exhibition recovers understudied aspects of the Jalisco-born artist's trajectory, including his interest in different conceptions of masculinity and his humanist positions on 20th-century international conflicts. The show includes murals and easel paintings alongside archival material, part of Bellas Artes' ongoing cycle revisiting the stories behind its own mural collection.
