Before the Eclipse: Archaeologies of Mexican Art of the Eighties
Tuesday to Sunday
Through Sunday, October 18, 2026
10:00 AM
This major exhibition brings together works by Mexican and international artists who lived and worked in Mexico during the 1980s and early 1990s, including Francis Alÿs, Gabriel Orozco, Melanie Smith, Jimmie Durham, and Abraham Cruzvillegas. Their practices emerged from experiences of exile and engaged deeply with Mexico's archaeological past, vernacular culture, and the sociocultural upheavals of the era. Marking the Museo Tamayo's 45th anniversary, the show reconsiders how history shaped the art that defines our present moment.
