Zona Arqueológica Tlatelolco

Founded in 1337 — thirteen years before Tenochtitlan — Tlatelolco became the largest and most important commercial center of the Aztec empire. The site sits at the center of the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, where pre-Columbian pyramids, a colonial church, and modern towers converge in one of the city's most historically charged spaces.

The archaeological zone displays basements and structures remarkably similar to the Templo Mayor, and served as the last stronghold of resistance against Spanish forces. The site includes a small museum with exhibits on the city's mercantile past. Entry is free for Mexican nationals on Sundays with ID or student credentials, and guided tours run at specific times throughout the day to contextualize the site's layered history.
