Teatro Fru Fru

Built in Second Empire style and inaugurated in 1899 as Teatro Renacimiento, this Centro Histórico landmark has lived many lives — early 20th-century glory, a 1933 rebrand to Teatro Mexicano, years of closure and near demolition, and a 1973 resurrection under its current name by actress Irma Serrano. The interior still carries gilded details and red velvet, though the years show through.

A local legend holds that performers leave candy for the horned faun figure near the entrance to ensure a successful show. The space hosts theater productions and musical performances, and while the building wears its age openly — dated lighting, limited climate control, aging bathrooms — the stage itself still commands attention.
