Xochimilco
Spanning 684 acres across the UNESCO-protected Xochimilco canal system and chinampas (pre-Hispanic raised-bed gardens), this ecological park offers hiking trails, bike paths, and boat rentals through wetlands fifteen miles south of the city center. The name comes from the Nahuatl for "the place where the flowers are grown," and the park still protects a working network of chinampas where flowers and vegetables have been cultivated for centuries.
The grounds include playgrounds, picnic areas with shelters and tables, and a seasonal cultural program. Open Friday through Sunday, 7am to 5:30pm.
