Estela de Luz

This 104-meter steel tower was built in 2011 to commemorate Mexico's bicentennial independence, though its construction scandal and massive cost overruns made it notorious before it even opened. Today the base houses the Centro de Cultura Digital, a free cultural center featuring rotating exhibitions on digital art, technology, and contemporary media — often interactive and light-based installations that appeal to both adults and kids.

The monument sits at the entrance to Chapultepec's first section along Reforma, making it a natural landmark and meeting point. The surrounding plaza is popular with skaters who practice on the smooth pavement, especially during evening classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bathrooms are available nearby, and the digital culture center is open to the public at no charge.
