This multidisciplinary cultural center spans two colonial buildings — one on República de Guatemala and the other around the corner on Donceles — with underground archaeological remains of what's believed to be an ancient Calmecac, the school for Mexica nobility. The basement houses this site museum with carefully preserved vestiges, while four upper floors rotate through contemporary art exhibitions, photography, video installations, and collage work.
The fifth floor has a terrace offering direct views of the back of the Metropolitan Cathedral, and there's a small café on the third floor. Admission is free, and the center hosts concerts, workshops, film screenings, and monthly night tours during Noche de Museos that include historical reenactments and legends performed on-site. Open Tuesday through Friday 11am–9pm, Saturday 10am–9pm, Sunday 10am–5pm.
