UNAM's Casa Universitaria del Libro occupies a meticulously preserved 19th-century mansion one block north of Plaza Río de Janeiro. The venue hosts literary presentations, photography exhibitions, artist book displays, and concerts — past programming has included free opera recitals performed under the dome on the second floor. The architectural fusion of the original mansion with contemporary cultural programming makes it easy to imagine the building's millionaire-era past while attending a contemporary author talk.

A well-stocked bookstore in the basement offers UNAM students discounts on new titles. Free cultural events run Monday through Saturday, with weekend hours ending at 3pm. The thick walls that give the space its historic character also mean cell signal and internet can be weak inside.
