Antigua Fábrica de Pólvora y Explosivos (Santa Fe)

This 19th-century gunpowder factory, once one of the world's top exporters of military-grade explosives, now serves as a cultural center in the Fourth Section of Bosque de Chapultepec. The site produced ammunition until the late 20th century, and one of its last workers — a survivor of one of three major explosions that rocked the complex — still leads tours, sharing firsthand stories of life inside the powder mills.

The restored industrial buildings host free workshops in painting, yoga, theater, and music. Access is easiest via Cablebús Line 3 to Vasco de Quiroga station, then a short walk through forested barranca trails. The site opens Wednesday through Friday 11am-6pm, weekends 10am-4pm, with free entry and occasional concerts.
